We have medical plans available directly from insurance carriers and through Covered California.
We understand that navigating the health insurance world can be overwhelming. We’ll help you through the process of choosing an appropriate health plan for you and your family.
What are the major types of health insurance?
California residents are able to choose between 4 major types of policies— HMO, PPO, EPO, and POS.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): This plan usually limits health coverage to specific doctors who either contract with or work for the HMO. Out-of-network care is typically not covered, unless in the case of an emergency.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): With this plan, you end up paying less if you use the providers within the PPO’s network. You aren’t barred from visiting doctors, providers, and/or hospitals outside of the network; this can be done without a special referral, but for an additional cost.
Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO): This is a managed care plan in which the services will only be covered if you visit the doctors, specialists, and/or hospitals in the EPO’s network.
Point of Service (POS): With this plan, you end up paying less if you use the doctors, providers, and hospitals that are part of its network. POS plans require a referral from your primary doctor to see any type of specialist.
